Team India must be relieved to see their star paceman Mohammed Shami returning to action ahead of their limited-overs tour of Australia, T20 Asia Cup and the World T20.
After a little more than eight months since his superb show in the World Cup, Shami will be marking his run-up again, turning up for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and his participation augurs well for India's tough assignments ahead, starting in January with the tour Down Under - that's if the much-anticipated series with Pakistan fails to materialise.
India will play five ODIs and three T20Is on the Australia tour starting January 12.
"I am back after eight months, so I am taking it slow and easy... I am gearing up to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. It will be a good preparation going into the limited-overs series against Australia," Shami told PTI.
The 25-year-old last played in India's World Cup semi-final against Australia in Sydney on March 26. The India pacer had a successful World Cup where he took 17 wickets at an average of 17.29 but the knee injury left him bed-ridden as he underwent surgery in Mumbai on May 5.
Such tough was his recovery phase that he was not able to walk for a month and needed support with crutches; but seven months down the line he is fully fit again after rehab and training at the Bengaluru-based BCCI academy.
